हिंदू धर्म और संस्कृति का महत्त्वपूर्ण लक्षण सर्वाधिक परिपूर्ण विचार; जो संसार ने कभी उत्पन्न किया। सन् 1893 में शिकागो धर्म-संसद् में अग्रणी संत विवेकानंद के विचारों से प्रेरित सिस्टर निवेदिता ने हिंदू धर्म और संस्कृति का जिस तरह से विश्लेषण किया; उसे समझा और निरूपित किया; उसे यहाँ इस पुस्तक में रोचक शैली में इतने प्रभावी ढंग से प्रस्तुत किया गया है; कि सदी गुजर जाने के बाद भी इससे प्रेरणा मिलती है; यह जनमानस को झकझोर देती है। आज भी कोई दूसरा इन ऊँचाइयों को नहीं छू पाया है। उनके अवलोकनों की मौलिकता; जैसे हिंदू धर्म की जाति-व्यवस्था के अत्यधिक उपहासपूर्ण मामले; हिंदू महिला; त्रिमूर्ति संश्लेषण; बौद्ध धर्म और शिव की संकल्पना अपनी अत्यावश्यकताओं में मस्तिष्क को हिला देनेवाले हैं। उनका विचार था— ‘भारत की गुम हो चुकी राष्ट्रीय क्षमता को पुनः प्राप्त करने के लिए संशोधित रूप में जाति-व्यवस्था को पुनर्जीवित करना है।’
